FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Pomroy Productions decals the same as stickers?

No. We produce quality water-slide decals, similar to those available in high-end plastic model kits.

Where can I buy more ships?

If there is a game store or hobby shop in your vicinity, try there first. Even if they don’t carry Starfleet Battles or Federation Commander merchandise, they would probably order it for you. It’s always a good idea to support your local hobby shop!

If you don’t have a local hobby shop, you can order ships from Amarillo Design Bureau; You’ll never meet a nicer group of folks, and they're more likely to have what you want in stock. I think we're on the payroll deduction plan there.

In my "Star Trek" universe, I tend not to limit myself strictly to "Star Treky" ships. Just as a fraction of ships on the Earth's ocean are warships, only a fraction of space ships are starships, and those other ships don't have to look like the Starfleet, or the Klingon or Romulan or Kzinti navy. They might even look like Earth Alliance, Colonial Navy, or Rebel Alliance ships. You never know. Heck, with the right paint job and science fiction-looking details added, you can make the aerator from your kitchen sink look like a space ship.

How should I paint my ships?
Usually it is best to spray paint the base color, to ensure an even coat. We have had great luck with acrilyc paints, but the choice is yours. The color choice is again up to you; however, Amarillo Design Bureau has published a very helpful series of painting guides. You should also browse the Star fleet Universe and Federation Commander forums for good examples of ship paint jobs.

Note: Our decals look best against a lighter background color (thank you, Federation, for having white ships!).

What do the Klingon and Kzinti ship names mean?

Whatever you want them to. The decals are meant to be used for ships in games or in displays. What you want to call the ships is up to you. Also, if you can read Klingon or Kzinti well enough to understand that the names are meaningless, well, you may need a vacation.

Why are there two styles of Federation markings?

We've created markings that resemble those used for the original Star Trek series (block-style), as well as markings that resemble those used during the movies (and in the original "Star Fleet Technical Manual" - Round-style). Some have said the block style is perfect for ships up to the early General War, and the round style is perfect for later in the General War, and beyond. Which you use is up to you (we like them both!).

Are the Federation ship names and numbers “real?”

In most cases, they are, in that most of them follow the Amarillo Design Bureau’s (ADB) Ship Name Registry. Some ship numbers have been changed (for example, FF USS Boyington is given the number NCC-214 – even though it is out of sequence – because “Pappy” Boyington lead the Marine fighter squadron VMA-214). We’ve also added ships such as SC USS Kelvin, NCC-514, and the NCA USS Minneapolis, NCC-1665, because if Dayton can have a ship, Minneapolis should have one too!

Why do some Federation ship have graphics in their saucer markings?

I think it is reasonable to assume that captains and flag officers would be given some latitude in decorating their ships. In the real world, the US Navy DD-981 USS John Hancock has the great man’s signature, as he made it on the Declaration of Independence, on its fantail.

Can you add ship names and numbers?

Yes! Refer to Custom Decal Services. Understand, though, that any ships added are not “official” in the eyes of ADB.

Can I suggest new decals?

Of course! We’re always looking for new ideas! Send us a note using the Contact Us! page, or email us at hobbybobp@hotmail.com.

Is it true that active duty servicemen and women don’t have to pay shipping and handling on their orders?

Yes! It seems only fair that those risking their lives for their country shouldn’t need to pay postage. As George Orwell is said to have written, “People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.”

Are the cool ships in your photos for sale?
Maybe. Some ships are customized or are very hard to come by. These are dearer (and costlier). If you are interested, contact us at hobbybobp@hotmail.com to make arrangements.

What’s next for Pomroy Productions?

We will be continually adding new products to the SFB line. We will also be creating decals for other space-related games, alternate decals for various Star Trek models, and model railroad decals (in Z, N, HO, S, O, and G gauges). In the future, we will also produce a line of paper wargame terrain in 1:285 (6mm) scale, including buildings, bridges, and railroad equipment.
