Romulan Eagle-Class Ships
In many cases, Pomroy Productions decals were developed to replace the need to paint specific fiddly details on ships. Our alternate motto is, “Those who can, paint. Those who can’t paint, decal.”
That being said, some of our decals still represent a fair amount of fiddly work. The dorsal “feathers” on Romulan eagle-class ships is a case in point: It can be a challenging experience placing these decals correctly. We have sometimes resorted to painting them anyway.
That being said, they look exceptionally cool as decals!
The bird of prey decals can be applied with little fuss; however, I have BOP models going all the way back to the original Gamescience days in the late 1970’s. These have been mixed in with later Task Force Games versions, and new ADB ships. As a result, I’ve fitted the ventral BOP marking to the size of the model, rather than the official SFB class type (I can’t tell which is which, anyway… I even use Elite-scale BOPs as patrol boats!).
If you have trouble finding a BOP decal that fits a particular model, contact us, and we’ll fix it, then send you a replacement.
Klingon Trefoils
In my photos, Klingon ships are shown with the names parallel to the edge of the aft hull, with the trefoil directly above, pointing towards the bow. This isn’t exactly in keeping with canon, which shows the names on the engine struts and trefoils on the engineering hull, pointing towards the impulse engine assembly. To me, this just doesn’t seem right. However, you may decorate your ships as you see fit.
Federation Saucer “Landing Gear”
The triangular markings on the bottom of Federation saucers have sometimes been referred to as “landing gear,” in case of emergency saucer separation and subsequent planetary landing.
It can sometimes be tricky to apply these at the correct 120° angle. If your ships are being used solely for gaming, you may not want to apply them at all.
Alien Markings
When a ship’s background color is very dark, a single Pomroy Productions decal may not cover well. (this is why it particularly satisfying to apply Federation, Romulan, and WYN decals!). If you are applying decals to a very dark ship, consider “doubling up” on them.
On the other hand, you could consider the toned-down effect of these decals to be similar to the US Navy’s “low-visibility” markings, and leave them as they are.
Note that very dark decals (such as Klingon or Kzinti lettering) cover well regardless of background color.
White Markings
At this time, Pomroy Productions cannot produce decals with white as a background color. However, all is not lost! If you need white as a color, contact us; we may be able to work out a solution at a slight additional cost, without having to go to the expense of creating custom ALPs-style or silk-screened decals.
